MTM RESULTS AT US OPEN TOURNAMENT
A few weeks back, the black belts of Planet Infinity took part in a US Open Tournament in Las Vegas. Here's an update of results from Coach Mario.
I just arrived po from Las Vegas and only now that I could update you of the US OPEN. God has been gracious po to have accompanied us again. There were the ups but also downs but the positive ones overshadow the negatives.
The tournament was attended by 59 countries like Russia, Netherlands, Croatia, Mexico, Honduras, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and many more. There were 1,741 registered competitors which included 17 national teams and 13 olympians. We in turn only have 4 registered members.
Out of the four we have garnered:
1 Gold - Amber Junior Poomse (beating out the USA National Poomse Member)
1 Silver - Jun placed second to the USA National Poomse Member
1 Bronze - Kathy
Amber also was eliminated for the senior Poomse competition through the ugliest judging we have witnessed so far. All those who were watching really could not comprehend what was happening. Regardless this tournament has given the students and the instructors much to learn about.
More than the medals though are stories to go with it.
One mother who saw Amber compete and won was so moved with the support of our group that she was so blessed and almost in tears seeing how we have supported and encouraged Amber. In fact she saw how the other gym complained to the judges about the result because their member who is a USA poomse team member lost to Amber when she knew that Amber did beat her fair and square.
In the sparring, Amber, Adrian did pretty well to the third round. Amber beat an Australian athlete, Canadian and USA till she failed to advance to the fourth round for medals. The competition was tough- 21 competitors in her category.
Adrian did well also up to the third round (49 competitors in his category). He beat a US athlete and a Canadian. In the fight against the Canadian athlete, the Canadian team already believed that Adrian would lose because their athlete was a head taller than Adrian. But there was the character in Adrian that proved them wrong. He scored the first two points and the Canadian team just fell silent and remained shocked as Adrian beat their athlete masterfully.
Kathy was doing strong in the second round but faded in the last rounds to lose to a Canadian athlete. Jun did not make it to the second round by losing in the first round to a Mexican athlete.
As we were leaving the arena, the father of the Canadian athlete that Adrian beat came up to us and congratulated Adrian for beating his son. He told his son not to take the smaller athlete's for granted but his son did not listen. Before the father left he extended a hand to Adrian and said, we will prepare for you next year. What a compliment..
Next was an athlete from Canada that passed us and said to all that we have very good students ... as a matter of fact he said Good Natured. And seeing our jackets with the MTM spelled out said, "That is how it should be: More Than Medals." He said that we ought to have better performance in the next Olympics to do better with last year's performance in Beijing.
Topping it off though, we were given a time to hold a service in one of the rooms and one yound Korean couple with their kids joined us. It has been a beautiful way of thanking the Lord for His faithfulness.
